FM Systems for Hearing Aids

Assistive hearing devices keep improving day by day. But hearing devices alone don’t make hearing easier in all scenarios. The things that can restrict listening are long distance from a source and reverberation, background noises, or echo. Individuals with normal hearing also find difficulties in hearing when the source is at some distance. Echo and background noise are a concern for everyone. People with hearing problems have much more complications than people with normal hearing when trying to hear in such tough conditions.

Youngsters and kids are hearing in challenging situations on a regular basis. A few examples are listening at the nursery, in the car, playing in the park and watching TV. The simplest way to hear better in most of these scenarios is to eliminate background noise and to have a short distance between the listener and the speaker. Most people don’t discuss with each other while they’re standing 3″ to 5″ away from each other. You cannot hear this closely in a vehicle or while your kid was having fun on the playground. Background noises generally can’t be taken out or changed. As a result, there are tools meant to help you hear in troublesome situations. The device used usually nowadays is the FM systems for hearing aids.
Parts of the FM system

Microphones

FM systems work same as the radio station that incorporates receiver and a transmitter. The source has the FM transmitter and the receiver has the FM receiver to receive transmitted signals. Generally, a lapel microphone is used in most of the cases. In conference rooms, you’ll find a microphone placed on a table. People can hear the voice of more than one person around the table using the FM.

Receivers
The FM transmitter transmits a radio signal with low-power to the FM receiver. The usual range of an FM receiver is 50 feet. With the FM system, you can feel that you hear a person from only 3 to 6 inches away. Many FM systems work without a hearing device and others need to be attached to a hearing aid. Today, small size and convenient receivers are also available.
When you hear a voice with FM and without FM system, you will easily understand the difference.
